Toko Hattori (服部 (はっとり) 瞳子 (とうこ) Hattori Touko) is a character in THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS. She is a cool-type idol from Oita and a member of 346 Production. She is currently unvoiced.

Appearance[]

Background[]

Toko is a mature woman who doesn't believe in her dreams anymore. She feels tired of betrayal. When she auditioned, she tried to believe in the Producer, but she felt she didn't have the ability to do so. If she failed this time, it was no longer her age to try again. Therefore, she tried to entrust her last chance to the Producer.[1]

Toko used to have the confidence to put her heart on the line, but now it's not at all, rather the opposite. She had some bad words thrown at her, but it was also a good experience for her. She feel like she can do her best if the Producer expects her to. When she looked around the audition room, she felt that everyone was very young and was anxious about whether she could do it. But thanks to the producer by her side, she remembered her important feelings.[1]

She was grateful that the Producer had picked her up and she would do her best to fulfill his expectations. She also mentioned that she liked the way the Producer worked. It reminded her of something she had forgotten. She believed in what people said and worked hard, but it still didn't pay off. She thinks she has no talent. But the truth was, she was just making excuses because she didn't want to get hurt. She said that it was inevitable. But she realized that was not the way to move forward. She won't be a tragic heroine forever. She wants to be an idol because she wants it now.[1]

Personality[]

Toko is a reserved, gentle, and soft-spoken woman. She is kind, radiates a graceful aura, and much admired by many of the idols around her because of these traits, but despite that, she is frequently prone to getting caught up in her head and doubting herself.

Struggling with her past, when the Producer first meets Toko, she has a somewhat sad, hesitant aura about her, having gotten used to hiding her true emotions from everyone around her. Before meeting the Producer, she often had trouble trusting others completely. She truly believed that she lacked talent, and the past was something that weighed heavy on her and tormented her.

Burned before, after trying once and receiving little to nothing in turn, the idea of returning to the entertainment world was a foreign idea to her. But, slowly and surely, Toko has been able to build her confidence and become a more positive person. Humble, sweet, and a motherly figure to many of the other girls, she's begun to open up much more and bond with many of them as an idol.

Toko tends to be the sensible straight man in groups, but a slightly playful side to her has emerged over the years, so she's definitely not opposed to having some fun or joking around. She's the type who gets easily flustered and embarrassed, though.

Despite sometimes doubting herself, it should be noted that Toko is far from being lazy or disliking her work. After being given another chance by the Producer, she refuses to let it go this time and works her absolute hardest at everything, even when she has worries. Warmed by the Producer's dedication to bringing her back to the idol world, Toko has become much more open and brighter over the years, but she exhibits a great deal of strength in trying to become an idol again in a world that treated her quite harshly.

When Toko started in the industry, she was told she had no talent. She put all her effort into her work, constantly, but faced rejection. And these rejections only grew her self-doubt and snuffed out any belief in herself she had. This doubt led her to miss many opportunities. Despite putting her heart into everything, she still couldn't sell. She was passed around from producer to producer, even overhearing them gossip about her failures and the reasons why she couldn't sell. Her self-confidence declined, and eventually it almost fizzled out. Even after retiring, she felt as though her past haunted her. That lost dream constantly chased after her, even if she covered her ears and closed her eyes. But as soon as she'd turn to look, it'd disappear—once again betrayed and cheated by the idea of idoldom.

But as the Producer has told Toko, her failures are not due to a lack of trying hard enough. Rather, until now, she has lacked a good partner—someone who can truly bring out her shine and stick with her until the very end, unafraid of failure or setbacks. And that has proven true. Because now, trying once again, Toko is able to shine brighter than ever, and with the help of the Producer, she has come to be able to recognize her own strength and refuses to let go of her dream now that it's within her grasp.

Toko won't hide from her past anymore. With her head held high, she will face any challenges that come her way. Cherishing the self-confidence the Producer was able to spark in her, she'll continue to nurture it until it blooms into the most beautiful flower.

Relationships[]

Toko is often seen with Miyu Mifune and Rumi Wakui, fellow somewhat-troubled adult idols, forming the unit Valentine Hanseikai. She's also sometimes pictured with Aoi Shuto and Misaki Etou, fellow idols from Oita, and Reina Koseki, whose mischief she is sometimes seen thwarting.
